This paper proposes an approach to the writing of Sergio Pitol and Ricardo Piglia through the gender known as diary that, because of its hybrid condition, establishes relations with the essay, the fiction and the autobiography. Pitol and Piglia contribute to the renovation of the hispanic american narrative through the combination of diverse registers with the purpose of producing new significations. The first part introduces a new series of relations between the two writers in the context of autofiction and the literary and extraliterary forms; the second analyzes fragments of El arte de la fuga, El viaje and El mago de Viena; the last part studies some entries of the Piglia’s diaries that were published in Formas breves, “Notas en un diario” (2011-2012) and Los diarios de Emilio Renzi (2015-2017). That is how the intesection between literary genders and between fiction ans reslity is identify and allows the triumph of the imagination above the memory.
