Uses of French poetry in Antonio José Restrepo (Poesías originales y traducciones poéticas, 1899) and Miguel Antonio Caro (Traducciones poéticas, 1889)

This paper focuses on Antonio José Restrepo and Miguel Antonio Caro, two Liberal and Conservative poet-translators who published their Spanish versions of French Poetry in the end of the 19th century, respectively in Poesías originales y traducciones poéticas (1899) and Traducciones poéticas (1889) The analysis of their strategies of translation will show the different uses they have of French poetry, opening an area of discussion for the politic role of translation during the Conservative Hegemony.
