Abstract

This paper seeks to showcase the way in which the ancient myth of the faustian bargain is reproduced in “Un pacto con el diablo” by Mexican author Juan José Arreola. By considering the concept of intertextuality as a possible link between the ancient myths and contemporary literature it is possible to trace parallelisms amongst the chosen myth and Juan José Arreola´s narrative.

Joel Alonso Luna Mendoza has a bachelor's degree in English Language from the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, as well as a Master's degree in Humanistic Research from the same institution and a second master's degree in Educational Development from the Chihuahuense Center for Postgraduate Studies, Currently She is in her fourth semester of the Doctorate in Arts and Humanities Education at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua where she focuses on the Mexican literary production of writers of the Mid-Century Generation.
